SISF Experience/ Guinness World Records -Largest Rueda Circle

October 18th, 2006 by chillydance

Was in S’pore from 15th upto 16th 2.30pm for SISF(S’pore International Salsa Festival) at D’Tent, Downtown East.

It wasn’t cheap, mind you.. compared to MISF. I paid $280 for the Full Package(Workshops & Parties(1st drink provided), 2 dinners and 2 lunches only) and another $52.50 for sharing the chalet with 3 other salseras.

O_o… almost forgot, have to fork out another RM100 for the bus fare(return trip)..

But, the money spent was worth it as it was an eye opening experience, especially when I join the Ladies’ shines and styling workshops.  We gals learnt a lot of isolation, ‘polishing’, ‘no scratching’, ‘no self touching’ and ‘no 50 suzie ques’ for the shines.

Heheheh.. can’t actually define what it is all about in words, but me think me can demonstrate a bit when am out salsaing in the clubs.

I really must salute Edie the Salsa Freak and Susana Montero, their shines/styling is really fabulous, though I doubt I can do all that moves in the club.  Some of the guys’ eyes might popped out from those shines, especially if I’m daring enough to do Edie’s ones.

Ooohhh… I did go for the fun Bachata Workshop.  It was really funny when the instructor start teaching those sexy bachata moves…cause there were too many hands around each other and bopping effect that the instructor made when demonstrating the moves.

Don’t forget about Johnny Polanco though… their music is cool.  Especially when they’re playing LIVE.

After the partying sessions, which ends at around 3am for the 3 nights, most of the salseros & salseras were real hungry, and we mostly end up having supper, or should we call it breakfast at  McD.

Yup, they have 24 hours McD in Down Town East (imagine our surprise when we saw the 24 hours sign at McD restaurant when we first arrived).

As breakfast was not provided by the chalets, we had our b’fast either at the foodcourt or the old kopitiam.  Tried their breakfast set which consists of toasted kaya butter bread, half-boiled eggs and coffee for $3. Not too expensive and its really good.  The waitress even tells you the exact time to eat the eggs.  Cool eh!!??

All of us had the post SISF syndrome on the morning of the 4th day in S’pore.  What syndrome???  Well, its called the over-hauled, droopy eye, stoned and zombie-liked look and we brought that syndrome from S’pore right on to yesterday(when we’re all back to reality, ie WORK!!!! again).

Well, that’s about it for my SISF experience.  Can’t wait till next year for MISF..  ^_^

*_* AND am proud to say that I’m of those people who’d registered and successfully danced the way to the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest Rueda Circle in S’pore on 15th October 2006.

Been Elbowed Club

September 25th, 2006 by chillydance

Went for rueda class last Saturday, and lo and behold, my partner accidentally hit my right cheek with his elbow.  It was painful at that time, but I do forgive him as he quickly apologise for his error.

And the night itself, while turning and CBLing around, my salsa partner(another guy) hit my left eye with his elbow and he quickly apologise too(we stopped dancing as he kept on apologizing to me).  I assured him that its ok, cos, I myself did elbowed him quite a lot at other times(bad of me).

Lucky for me(and him) that I took off my spec prior to the dance as I was having a mild headache prior to dancing with him.  Too bad the elbowing session didn’t cure my headache.  If not, I’ll be thanking him for hitting me instead.

This really prove one thing.  That dancing is a very very very physical thing and most of the salseros and salseras out there are confirmed members of the Been Elbowed Club.

Hope I won’t be elbowed again tomorrow and in the near future too.  *_*

Dilemma of A Follower

September 22nd, 2006 by chillydance

Dance_1 On a particular Friday night, a Leader asked me: why didn’t you join intermediate class ? I asked why ?  He can’t answer me..      Am I a bad follower just because I didn’t take intermediate class? Or is it because I just don’t know what he’s trying to do ??  Sigh……

I can follow another senior Leader’s lead(most of the time that is), unless he starts using stuffs that he learned from Intermediate class… Was dancing with him one night when I started to lose a bit of concentration(too tired that night) and can’t follow his lead and guess what???  He scolded himself and said its his fault, instead of glaring at me. .. hee hee.. and I just laugh it off. So bad of me, right ?

Should have told him that it’s my bad, but, then again, I’ll make it up to him when I see and dance with him again.

Another (good)leader commented that I know how to tiu(dance) and mou(move) already, but not flirty enough (darn!!!).

Hmm… maybe its about time I take up styling classes again(after stopping for almost a year).

Anyway, I’ll just continue to dance like nobody’s watching and do my very best to be flirty.. ;)
